Heritage in Schools Visit 4th Classes
We were delighted to welcome Edel Heeran to St. Oliver’s as part of the Heritage in Schools programme. Edel delivered an engaging and informative presentation on Ireland’s wild bees and honeybees, and explained how the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan was developed to support these vital pollinators.
Learners had the opportunity to see real beekeeping equipment up close, including an educational hive, pollen samples, a smoker, a bee suit, and jars of honey, which they were thrilled to taste.
Following the talk, learners explored the school grounds on a nature walk, where they identified and recorded local flora and fauna. This hands-on experience helped deepen their understanding of the role pollinators play in our environment, and what steps we can take to make our school grounds more pollinator-friendly.
We are very grateful to Edel for her time, knowledge, and passion, which truly inspired the children to care for and protect the natural world around them.
