Message from Principal

21st Apr 2020

April 20th 2020-

Hello to our Parents/Guardians and children,

I hope you all are enjoying the beautiful weather which is certainly making our current and very unusual situation, a little less of a burden! We are missing all of the pupils of St Oliver’s very much and can’t wait to have the corridors busy and to hear the sound of children playing in the school yard again.  Listening to the daily reports, it would seem that all of our sacrifices are really beginning to work.  It’s very difficult not being able to see loved ones and visit family members, but it seems like it is having the desired effect-so fingers crossed that we are heading in the right direction.

I know that students have school work to keep them engaged and challenged for the coming weeks, and I thank teachers for taking on the challenge and adapting to support the needs of school, during the current situation. It is important that parents/guardians encourage children to become engaged with this work, at a level that suits your home. I fully understand the challenges for parents, who are trying to parent and to teach, maybe work from home, mind an older person and keep all of these balls in the air at the one time.  Please be realistic in your efforts and realise that each child in the country will be missing out on the same time in school. We will all endeavour to bridge gaps for children when this awful situation ends.  This is a great opportunity to read a little more, as many other activities are on hold! There are a number of wonderful websites on this page also, which add some variety to the learning opportunities.  IXL Maths and English log in details are in all homes now, and this gives a wide variety of learning opportunities to all. Best of Luck with it all and remember, some days will be more productive than others-but it is important to stay connected and engaged at some level.

Please contact Mr O’Connell on HSCL email on website, if you have any queries or need any additional support-the school may be closed but we are still at hand, as much as possible, to support families.

Fr. Hegarty has asked me to pass on his regards to each and every family in the school. We are all in his prayers each day.

Stay well and stay safe,

Kind Regards,

Valerie Slattery
